Last updated: October 2026.

If you've walked into a Starbucks in India, you were in a Tata Starbucks store. It's a partnership between Tata Consumer Products and Starbucks Corporation, with stores across major Indian cities. Everyone who works there is called a "Partner," not an "employee." Tata Starbucks hires for Barista, Shift Supervisor and Store Manager roles, and below you'll find eligibility, salary, the interview process, and how to avoid fake job offers.

Sr. No Post Name
1. Barista
2. Shift Supervisor
3. Store Manager

1. Roles and Responsibilities

The three roles carry very different levels of responsibility, so here is what each one involves day to day.

Job Responsibilities for Barista:

As a Barista, you're the person customers actually talk to, so most of the job is about people, not just coffee. You'll take orders, suggest drinks based on what the customer likes (someone who wants "something cold and not too sweet" needs a different answer than someone who wants a strong espresso), and fix problems when an order goes wrong. Between orders, you'll keep the counter clean, follow food-safety rules, and help new partners learn the routine. It's busy work, and you're on your feet most of the shift.

Job Responsibilities for Shift Supervisor:

A Shift Supervisor is in charge of the store during their shift. When a customer has a question the Barista can't answer, or the store is packed and people are getting impatient, you're the one who steps in. Day to day, you'll train new partners, check that food and drinks meet quality standards, make sure hygiene rules are followed, and encourage the team to suggest add-ons to customers, which helps sales. You'll also handle cash at the end of the shift, so accuracy matters.

Responsibilities for Store Manager:

The Store Manager is responsible for the whole store, not just one shift. That includes customer service, food preparation, staff schedules, cash handling and bank deposits, expenses, and stock ordering. You'll also hire and train new people. A big part of the job is keeping the team motivated: listening when someone has a problem, sorting out disagreements fairly, and teaching staff about new menu items. If the store runs smoothly, it's usually because the manager planned well.

2. Eligibility Criteria

Barista and Shift Supervisor are open to 12th pass candidates. Store Manager needs retail experience.

Post Name Eligibility Criteria
Barista and Shift Supervisor

12th pass from any stream (Arts, Science or Commerce) 3-year polytechnic diploma after 10th 12th pass from NIOS Shift Supervisor: around 1 year of retail experience

Store Manager

12th pass with 3 years of retail experience Graduate degree preferred (B.Com, B.Tech, etc.)

Note: Requirements can differ by listing, so check the job description for your role.

3. Age Limit For Each Role

Tata Starbucks job listings do not usually state an age limit. For full-time Barista and Shift Supervisor roles you should be an adult, so at least 18 years old. Some listings, such as apprenticeships, mention a minimum age of 16. Check the listing for your role before you apply.

4. Salary and Benefits (Estimated)

Tata Starbucks does not publish salaries in its job listings. These figures are estimates based on employee-reported data on AmbitionBox, as checked in October 2026. Actual pay varies by city, experience and store.

Post Name Salary
Barista Rs 1.2 to 2.5 LPA (Estimated)
Shift Supervisor  Rs 2.2 to 3 LPA (Estimated)
Store Manager Rs 4 to 9 LPA (Estimated)
Other Benefits
PF, ESI (As per Company policy)

Additional Benefits:

Along with PF and ESI as per company policy, new partners receive training when they join.

6. Required Documents

Before going for the interview or applying, keep these documents ready:

Updated resume Aadhaar card or PAN card (clear copy) Bank passbook copy, if you have an account

7. Selection Process

Here is how hiring usually works, from applying to the offer letter.

Online Method:

The best way is to go to the official Tata Starbucks career page and fill out the form. This is the most genuine way. You can also apply through LinkedIn.

Offline Method (Store Visit):

This is very effective. Dress neatly, take your updated Resume, put a smile on your face, and visit a nearby Starbucks store. Ask to speak to the Store Manager and apply directly.

Telephonic Round:

Shortlisted candidates will get a call from the Store Manager. Listen carefully to their questions and answer clearly. Listening well is very important here.

HR Interview (Face-to-Face):

You will meet the HR or Manager in person. The most important thing is confidence. Do not be nervous. I have listed common questions below—practice them well before you go!

Selection & Joining:

The offer letter usually arrives in about 1 to 2 weeks, though this varies.

Job Locations:

Openings appear mostly in major cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata and Guwahati. Locations change often, so check the careers page for current listings in your city.

8. Fees and Charges (Important!)

Applying for a job at Tata Starbucks is completely free. You never have to pay anyone. If someone asks for money as a "security deposit," "interview fee" or "uniform fee," it is a fake job offer. Do not pay, and do not share your documents with them.

9. Interview Questions and Answers

Below are questions that commonly come up in Starbucks interviews, with sample answers. Don't memorise them word for word. Interviewers can tell when an answer is rehearsed. Use these as a base and put things in your own words and your own examples.

For Barista:

Q1. Why do you want to work at Tata Starbucks?

Answer: "I like how Starbucks treats its staff. The 'Partner' idea tells me they care about the people working there, not just the customers. I enjoy talking to people and I'm keen to learn how to make coffee properly, so this feels like a good place to start."

Q2. How would you handle an angry customer?

Answer: "I would listen to the full complaint without interrupting, then apologise for the experience. If the problem is with the drink, I would offer to remake it the way they want. If it is something I can't fix myself, I would call my Shift Supervisor. I want the customer to leave feeling heard."

Q3. Can you work in rotational shifts or weekends?

Answer: "Yes, I can work rotational shifts and weekends. I understand weekends are the busiest time for a cafe."

Note: Only say yes if you really can. If you have a genuine limitation, such as classes on certain days, say so honestly and mention which days you are free. A truthful answer is better than a "yes" you can't keep.

For Shift Supervisor:

Q1. What is the difference between a Barista and a Shift Supervisor?

Answer: "There is a big difference. A Barista's main job is to make good coffee and serve customers with a smile. A Shift Supervisor has to manage the whole shift. They check if all staff are working well, ensure there are no customer complaints, and importantly, manage the inventory/stock."

Q2. How do you handle cash discrepancies (missing money)?

Answer: "I would first count the cash again carefully, with another partner present if possible. If the numbers still don't match, I would check the receipts and recent transactions for a mistake. If I can't find the reason, I would report it to the Store Manager right away instead of hiding it."

Q3. What is your favorite drink at Tata Starbucks?

Answer: "I like a cappuccino. The espresso is strong, but the milk foam softens it, so it's not too bitter and not too sweet."

Note: Whatever drink you name, try it in a store before the interview. If they ask a follow-up, you will have a real answer instead of a guess.

For Store Manager:

Q1. How will you increase the sales of this store?

Answer: "First, I will work hard to make customers happy, because a happy customer always comes back. Second, I will train my team to suggest good products to customers. Lastly, I will ensure we give the best quality service in the shortest time."

Q2. How do you handle a conflict between two employees?

Answer: "I would talk to each person separately first, so they can explain their side without pressure. Then I would bring them together, stay neutral, and focus on how the problem is affecting the team's work. If it keeps happening, I would follow company policy and involve HR."

Q3. Describe a time you failed and what you learned.

Answer: "Early in my retail job, I misjudged stock for a weekend. I ordered too much of a slow-selling item and too little of something that sold out by Saturday afternoon. After that, I started looking at the last four weeks of sales before every order and keeping a small buffer for weekends. Our stock-outs dropped after that."

Note: This is only an example. Use a real mistake from your own work, explain what went wrong, and say what you changed afterwards.

10. Success Tips

Many people make small mistakes during interviews. Avoid these to stand out.

Do's

Don'ts

Entry:
Always ask for permission before entering. (It shows that you are disciplined).
Never enter the interview room without permission.
While Answering: Always answer with a smile. (Having a smile on your face shows confidence) Don't answer before the question is finished.
Dress Code: Go clean and well dressed. (Hygiene and cleanliness are essential at Starbucks). Never wear flashy/bright clothes or slippers.
Eye Contact: Maintain eye contact while answering. (It shows that you are serious and the interviewer appreciates it). Don't look at the wall or down at the table while answering
Using Phone : Keep your mobile on silent mode. (Receiving a call or message is very unprofessional during an interview). Avoid keeping your phone on the table, checking messages or scrolling.
Hand Gestures: Sit upright and keep your hands relaxed. Natural hand movements while explaining are fine. Don’t fidget, cross your arms, or tap the table.

11. Resume Writing Tips:

A lot of resumes for cafe jobs look identical: "hardworking, honest, quick learner." Recruiters read dozens of these. What helps is showing proof. Instead of writing "good communication skills," write "handled 40+ customers per shift at my previous job." If you're a fresher, mention things like college events, part-time work, or volunteering.

Keep the objective to one sentence, for example: "Looking for a Barista role at Tata Starbucks where I can learn coffee preparation and serve customers well." Under skills, list only what you can back up, such as customer handling, teamwork, cash counting or basic computer use. If you can work rotational shifts, weekends and holidays, say so clearly, but only if it is true for you. Keep the resume to one page with no spelling mistakes. A neat resume says as much about you as a neat uniform.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Can 12th pass freshers apply?
Yes. For Barista and Shift Supervisor, 12th pass from any stream is accepted. Shift Supervisor roles may ask for around 1 year of retail experience.
What is the best way to apply—Online or Offline?
Both work. Applying on the official Tata Starbucks careers page is the safest option. You can also visit a nearby store with your resume and ask for the Store Manager.
Does Starbucks charge any fees?
No. Applying and interviewing are free. If anyone asks for money as a security deposit or uniform fee, it's a scam.
Can college students get part-time jobs?
Yes, in some cases. Tata runs a part-time Barista and Shift Supervisor program for women who have passed 12th (HSC), with flexible hours in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Kolkata and Chandigarh. Part-time partners also get a free meal during shifts and a discount on store purchases. Availability depends on the city and store.
Is English necessary? Does broken English work?
You should be able to talk to customers politely and clearly. You don't need perfect English. Basic, confident communication, plus the local language, is usually fine for Barista roles.
When will I get a call back after the interview?
Usually within one to two weeks, but this varies by store and city.
